In the July-August 2018 issue of Notary Notes, we wrote that stamped signatures are never acceptable for notarizations. We were wrong and we apologize.
For customers who are disabled or illiterate, stamped signatures are regarded the same as signatures by mark. In these instances, the customer and two witnesses must all be present and properly identified at the time of the signing. The customer (either using a stamped signature or a signature by mark “X”), must clearly indicate to the notary and witnesses that signing the record is their intention.
