The Pennsylvania Department of State has begun accepting applications for the electronic notarization program. Updated information is now posted on the Department of State’s Web site.
The updates include Frequently Asked Questions, electronic notary application and instructions, the eight steps to becoming an electronic notary in Pennsylvania, list of participating county recorder of deeds for electronic notarization, and the list of approved electronic notarization solution providers.
When the Electronic Notarization Initiative was established in Jan. 2006, the National Notary Association was the state’s sole vendor of digital certificates for electronic notaries. In 2009, the NNA decided to go in a different direction with electronic notarization so the Department of State no longer accepted electronic notary applications until a new system could be instituted.
Earlier this year, officials with the Department of State, county recorders of deeds and various vendors of electronic notarization processes met to discuss how to implement an improved electronic notarization program in Pennsylvania.
