Ebert “Bill” Beeman, the Erie County notary and 6th District councilman who refuses to provide his Social Security number to PennDOT to obtain a driver’s license, has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his sixth arrest for driving without a license.
The 61-year-old was sentenced to serve six months of intensive probation, beginning with a 30-day stint wearing an electronic monitoring device . He must also perform 25 hours of community service and pay a $1,300 fine.
During his 2009 campaign for the district council seat, Beeman said he wanted to eliminate mandated county government services, including the Erie County Public Library. He advocated the release of nonviolent offenders from the Erie County Prison and a 10 percent pay cut for all non-bargaining county employees.
He owes the Internal Revenue Service more than $2 million after he quit filing income taxes in 1993. He has sued the IRS for $7 million, claiming they improperly filed liens against him in Erie County Court.
Beeman is the owner and operator of Libertarian Notary, in Waterford, and has a blog called Libertarian Notary Blog.
