Volunteer notaries are needed for a great cause in Monroe County.
The Monroe County Bar Association will launch its first Wills for Heroes program on Saturday, Oct. 9, drawing up free wills for first responders – police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and corrections officers or their widows or widowers.
The Bar Assocation needs up to 20 volunteer lawyers, several notaries and six witnesses (witnesses need not be lawyers) to assist first responders in drawing up a basic will.
Volunteers will receive a mini-course the morning of the Wills for Heroes event to brief them on what they need to know to assist will applicants. Lawyers who specialize in estate planning will be available to answer questions.
To volunteer for the program, please call the Monroe County Bar Association office at 424-7288 or email [email protected]. Emergency responders should sign up early as participation will be limited.
