PennDOT has increased the cost of the photograph for driver’s licenses and identification cards.
Effective immediately, the four-year photo fee will increase by $1.50, from $7 to $8.50, an increase of 37.5 cents per year.
The increase is the result of two cost factors. First, there is an inflationary cost increase in the Department’s new five-year contract with the Pennsylvania Industries for the Blind and Handicapped, which provides facilities and staffing at PennDOT’s 97 photo license centers. Secondly, there are slight cost impacts associated with an update to the photo process the Department plans to implement to address fraud in processing new driver’s license applicants.
Although license and identification card renewals generated in December reflect the new fee, if a customer submits a renewal containing the old fee prior to April 1, 2011, it should still be accepted.
All applicable PennDOT forms and publications have been revised to reflect the new fees. The revised forms and publications are available on PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services Web site at www.dmv.state.pa.us.
